Thriving In Uncertainty
In this current economy, everything seems uncertain. We wonder what the next few months hold; wait a minute, we don’t know what tomorrow holds.
Everywhere the news of uncertainty flashes before our very eyes, from the Television set, to all social media handles, to pop up news and discussions going on everywhere. The future seems bleak.
It is important to know that inaction, can’t be the default response in this season and trialling times. So we need to be proactive. It is highly important to start creating new opportunities rather than waiting for them to come.
So let’s think of every single day as a step to get to where we want to be in life; ensure we see beyond today; and create a picture of what we want our future to look like.
Below are a few things to get us started:
1. Know thyself
Would we like to feel alive no matter what’s going on in our lives? If the answer is yes, these aspects need to align:
• who we are (our identity);
• why we are who we are (our purpose);
• what we are (the value we bring or create); and
• what values guide us.
Our beliefs dictate our behaviour, and our behaviour influences how we act.
2. Have a purpose
Knowing why we want what we want not only guides, but it also helps us to navigate uncertainties, and take on challenges that we may otherwise shun.
3. Get a Gratitude Journal and practice Thankfulness
Every stage we go through has its good and bad. Even in the difficult stages of life, God has magnificently ordered something for us. Colossians 2:7 say ‘Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving’.KJV
A grateful spirit does wonders for our heart and outlook on life in general.
What should we be thankful for? Good health? A loving family? The possibilities are endless. Practicing thankfulness helps us to move our attention to what God is doing wherever we find ourselves. The more we complain, worry, the less we can value, cherish, savor, enjoy, and accept the many small blessings we receive. This is a choice we must make daily.
4. Celebrate Life
We need to celebrate life every day. Even stages of sorrow, discouragement or pain are not devoid of little things for us to celebrate.
Probably the greatest reality we can take with us through all of life’s stages is that we are never alone – God is with us. He will never leave us and will walk with us every step of the way. As long as we keep in step with him, we know we can face every stage of our life. I don’t know about you, but this is comforting!
4. Learn about something that excites one.
Continuous learning should be interesting, not a chore. This will build us, and with all the resources the internet affords us, there’s no excuse not to learn.
